When in 1986, Carmen Gómez, due to her status as a lebanega, was explained to her risk of pomace in her region, she decided to create Orujo de Liébana, S.A. (Orulisa), and thus to maintain, adapted to the times, the traditional production of pomace in this area.
In the 2016 harvest, Orulisa released its first wine made with Liébana grapes, within the IGP “Vino de la Tierra de Liébana” and with a very low production.
Simple, fresh and characterful wines that express the variety of grapes and the soil of Lebanon's lands. This is a vineyard attached to the pomace distillery, planted in 1986 with Mencía and Palomino grafts from the area, and 6 small plots of old vineyard that we are recovering in the Pumareña area, with vines between 60 and 100 years old. With varieties such as Mencía, Garnacha Tintorera, Tempranillo, Albillo, Palomino, Moscatel and Albarín black and white.
Since April 2018, these plots in Pumareña have been registered in the international Heroic Viticulture Register (CERVIM), since they are located on land with an altitude of more than 500 meters and with slopes all exceeding 30%, traditionally cultivated in pots and with native varieties. Very few vineyards in our country meet these extreme requirements for the cultivation of vines that make it totally impossible to use mechanical means for their care.
