Cheese shops

Another product that is expanding more and more nationally and internationally is our cheese.

It was in the tenth century that the first known mention of the importance of cheese appeared in Cantabria, within a text by Santo Toribio de Liébana. Since then, we have always maintained this tradition.

Nowadays we have around 50 cheese factories located in the rural environment, where around 100 delicious different varieties are made.

Cantabrian cheese is mainly made with cow's milk, although there are also those from sheep and goats that graze mainly in Liébana, within the Picos de Europa National Park.
You can buy three types of Cantabrian cheeses with a protected designation of origin: Cantabrian cheese, Liébana cheese and the well-known blue Picón Bejes-Tresviso Cheese. Cantabrian cheeses are strongly influenced by the landscape where their animals graze. A landscape with wide and extensive meadows.
